Stop And Go. Tourism, migration and art at the junctures of the transnational mobility continuum

Michael Zinganel

At the core of this workshop lies an examination of the roles of tourism and migration in a transnational mobility continuum. These are understood not just as antipodes of a liquid modernity (Bauman) between necessity and free will, but as parallels and opposing movements, which can also be characterized by the entanglements and dependencies connecting them. We are interested not only in the macropolitical perspective of transnational flows and their management, but also in the micropolitical perspective of those involved, as well as the concrete thresholds and places en route, where self-determined rituals and routines are lived. The aim of the workshop is to develop on location at least a “first draft” for an intervention, performance or installation on the theme; and at best, the realization of a further stage – a “work in progress”.
