Tourism Complexes

Krystian Woznicki and Magdalena Taube

When do we enter the world of tourism? When are we tourists? In the workshop Tourism Complexes tourism is dealt with as an all encompassing system. Touching all conceivable areas of society with its expansive dynamic, tourism has no "outside" and therefore renders virtually everybody a tourist.

In order to understand (our place in) the second largest industry in the world, in both its local as well as global manifestations, it should be analyzed according to >complexes<: the (often hidden) couplings and connections to other areas and actors in society.

In this workshop we will establish a theoretical basis for thought and analysis with complexes, as well as identify and collectively discuss local phenomena in Palanga. We will do field research (beach excursions, etc.) and reflect our experiences in writing sessions, which aim to train the processing and publishing of travel impressions.

This workshop is a collaboration with the Berliner Gazette Seminar.
Texts that are written in the context of the workshop will be published in the Berliner Gazette.
